Elements of Film
Stanley Kubrick stands out as one of the most influential filmmakers in history. Some of the key elements of Kubricks alluring style are his maticulous use of color and lighting, his innovative camera techniques, and his ability to create deeply immersive atmospheres that captivate audiences. An example is in The Shining (1980), where the color red is used to symbolize danger and madness. Furthermore, Kubrick's use of symmetrical framing. Another example is his use of the color black in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) to evoke the mystery of the monolith. This theme carries through almost all of his films with a meticulous attention to detail and a unique visual style that has left a lasting impact on cinema.
Kubrick's unique style also comes from his use of symbolism. He can place the viewer in certain situations that invoke different feelings or encourage a certain way of thinking. An example would be in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), The opening scene introdces a black monolith in what appears to be the earliest human lifeforms. Based on this the viewer is lead to believe that this played a part in triggering human evolution. Another example of this is in Eyes Wide Shut (1999), with the idea of the masks which are hiding a dark reality but also hiding individual desires and secrets.
