Eyes Wide Shut is my personal favorite movie of all time. There are so many symbolic elements that Stanley Kubrick uses to convey deeper meanings. One prominent symbol is the use of masks during the secret society scenes. The masks represent the hidden desires and secrets of the characters, as well as the duality of human nature. They allow individuals to explore their fantasies without the constraints of societal norms. The masks also create an eerie atmosphere, emphasizing the theme of anonymity and the loss of identity within the secretive world depicted in the film. Not to mention the phenomenal use of color and lighting throughout the movie that adds to the overall mood and symbolism. Every scene in the movie has a purpose and adds to the story which makes me even more invested in what, exactly, is going on and who someone behind a mass might actually be. Overall I believe this was Kubricks most impactful and symbolic movie.
